Where did this idea start?
I was playing my first round at Sunflower Hills in Kansas after moving to KC Missouri. I was paired up with 3 friendly local engineers. After getting to know each other over the first 3 holes, I chipped in on the 4th hole for a birdie. They asked if it was my first one in Kansas, and they congratulated me on it. That always stuck in the back of my mind. After losing my father to Covid, I reflected on him and his life. I could make a list of things that he always wanted to do. While he was a perfectly happy man, I made a decision that I was going to do the opposite of that and make happy life experiences to remember fondly. I’ve known for years that my passion is golf and started to enjoy traveling. I made the decision that I wanted to travel the US and play golf in all 50 states. Of course being a “good golfer”, playing in every state wasn’t going to be enough for me. I had to up the ante, and declare that I was going to make a birdie in all 50 states.
Where do I stand?
At the beginning of 2024, I’m ½ currently at 35 states completed! I had several good attempts to complete this feat in 8 other states. I just couldn’t get the ball in the hole on those days!
How can you help?
In my quest, I certainly would love to also have the ability to travel to the top 100 golf courses as well. This will be my next quest. With this, I will need the help of kind golf enthusiasts. The majority of the best courses in the US are all private clubs. If you are willing to host me, or know a person that would please help me out! I’m not promising anything, but I’m on a streak of 5 years in a row of witnessing a hole in one. Please and thank you!
