I was fortunate enough to get my Illinois birdie during my first round in the state at Skokie CC. It was on the 13th hole. A 502 yard par 5 on the score card. I hit my drive on the heel of the driver and the traveled just over 230 yards. I pulled my hybrid a bit and was flirting with the pond on the right side of the hole. I managed to leave it in the fairway. I hit my lob wedge from 65 yards to 8 feet of the middle right cut pin for the day. The caddie gave me a great read on the big breaking left to right putt. It rolled in the heart of the cup.
