The normal post about my weekly game with Mr. Wuf has been highjacked by the most impressive round of golf I’ve seen in person. And that says a lot considering I’ve played with people who it was their first round all the way to a tour pro.
The Warrior Golf Club is an absolutely wonderful golf course. Well worth the commute from Charlotte. I’m personally battling back from a serious case of the shanks and self doubt on the course. I shot an 42-43 for an 85. I had a tough time getting engaged in this round. This changed about 14 holes in. I noticed the gentleman that we were paired with was having an exceptional round going. I found myself going back through his round and had him at 4 or 5 under par. He continued putting on this show for the final couple holes. He missed his birdie putt on 18, and said that his round tied for his personal best. Which was 8 under par, in for a 63.
I talked Mr. Wuf’s ears off on the way home about what we saw. This guy wasn’t built like a tour pro. Not hitting driver 300 yards. Not hitting all of his approach shots to tap in distance. In face, most of his drives were between 250-270 yards. He played to the right spot. He was able to hit his approaches on center of the green. He had his putter dialed in. If he didn’t make the putt, it was almost a tap in to cleanup for par. The formula is that simple. Not a secret at all.
This was definitely something that I needed to see. Something about witnessing this started to bring and end to this golf depression.
