State #31: New Mexico

Crescit eundo

New Mexico was extremely frustrating. I just could not get the ball in the hole. It took an emergency round and had to wait until the 18th at University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course. It was my 81st hole of the 2 days I’d spent in New Mexico. It is a 522 yard par 5. I hit a good drive. I had about 270 yards left to the green. As we were waiting for the group ahead of us, I noticed sprinklers around the property that we popping up and watering the course. I’m picking my club and the sprinklers on the 18th hole pop up. I have to plan to hit my next shot between cycles of the sprinkler. After it passes my ball, I run in with my hybrid and hit a good shot. This leaves me 100 yards out and the same challenge ahead. Taking my sand wedge, I hit a perfect shot to about 5 feet to the left of the pin location. I watch the sprinklers on the green to figure out there timing. As soon as it passes my ball I weave between the 2 sprinklers and rush into my ball. Set up very quickly and hit the ball. It hits the pole of the flag stick and drops in! This is definitely one of the more memorable ones.
